Why Bamboo?

Bamboo Flooring
bamboo — Toronto

There’s a new kind of flooring that’s steadily gaining in popularity and it’s for a good reason.  Bamboo is technically a kind of grass, though its tall wood-like stalks can grow as tall as fifteen feet or four and a half meters.  Bamboo’s unique properties make it an outstanding choice for flooring that has many of the benefits of hardwood with a few extra bonuses.

Aesthetics

Natural bamboo is so light as to be practically blonde in colour, which can lend a bright modern sensibility to any room.  It is offered in multiple design options as well including striped and ‘carbonized’ bamboo which offers a darker color more reminiscent of traditional hardwood flooring.

Ease of Care

Bamboo wears as well and lasts as long as any oak or other hardwood floor.  It also doesn’t require the special cleaners that hardwood often does – a mop and mild soap is all that’s needed to keep a bamboo floor shining and healthy.  It can also be refinished as hardwood can be, though it’s important to keep in mind that the carbonized variety creates a softer wood that can be more prone to damage.

Environmental Impact

For many, this is a primary motivator in choosing bamboo over a traditional hardwood.  Instead of using wood from a tree that may have taken decades to mature, bamboo is harvested from a fast growing form of grass that can reach maturity in three to five years.  This means bamboo is a far more renewable resource and is much better for a sustainable environment.

Cost

Due to its renewable nature, bamboo ranges from less expensive to equivalent in price to hardwood flooring.

Bamboo is gorgeous and can be a terrific addition to your home – everything else is pretty much just icing on the cake.  The easier maintenance is great and it’s always nice to help the environment – especially when it means you still get to have a beautiful floor.  If you have any questions about flooring feel free to contact our team, and if you want to see it yourself visit our showroom to see what bamboo flooring we have on offer.
