Maybe your little one’s getting bigger or maybe you have one on the way. Whichever it is you’ve made a decision – it’s time to do a little remodelling with kids in mind. This is a great idea since a kid-friendly environment can make for a happier, more inquisitive, and more creative child. Of course you don’t want to sacrifice the important things adults need in a home but there are a few changes that can help give your kid a place of their own.
Think Bright
For a bedroom or washroom that’s going to be used mostly by a child you want to go with bright colours. That means light blues, radiant yellows, and other pastels. Don’t be afraid to add a stencil or two of teddy bears, or stars, or other shapes that a child can see and identify. Give the child a little corner of the basement as a play area with their own personal storage box for their toys.
Safety
Kids are full of energy and once they learn to run there’s nothing they like to do more. Make sure any sharp edges are appropriately protected and any rugs or carpet are tight and secure to prevent any injury from falling.
Other Adjustments
Making a few other adjustments can reap dividends down the line. Consider adding a stepping stool in front of the sink – this enables your child to fully interact while they’re brushing their teeth. It’s also important to remember that kids can be very messy so consider coating your walls with a type paint that can be cleaned easily. Hardwood floors are not friendly to spills and other child-related incidents so you may want to consider covering it up with a nice, easily maintained, carpet. For a little while at least.
Taking care of kids can be exhausting but it’s also rewarding. With a couple of the right changes you can make your kid feel even more in home than they already do. If you’re looking for flooring design tips for your child contact us at Tony’s Flooring Centre today.
