The last thing you want is for dust to fall down onto the floor while your new finish is drying. Give the dust some time to settle, then use a shop vacuum with a dust filter to remove it from the floor.4. Wipe the floor with a tack cloth.The next step is to wipe the entire surface of the floor with a tack cloth. This type of cloth has been specially treated with a waxy substance to pick up dust particles. You should plan to use more than one tack cloth to avoid overloading a cloth and missing any of the residue.5. Apply the finish.At this point, you would apply the finish onto your floor. Be sure to apply it evenly over the surface of your floor. It sits on the surface of the wood, so avoid having any spots where the finish sits in a pool.
Buff with fine steel wool. Vacuum and wipe the floor with a tack cloth. Apply the first of two coats of finish wax, polyurethane or varnish. Allow to dry between coats. Apply the final coat and wait at least 24 hours after the final coat dries before moving furniture into the room.
