Your flooring is an important and permanent part of your home. It’s not like Christmas or Thanksgiving decorations that you can box and store away after a few weeks or months. It would also take much longer for you to replace it. That is why homeowners usually wait until it is absolutely necessary and logical to replace it.
If you’re thinking of getting new ones before the year ends, perhaps you also want to know if there’s a need for you to do it. Here are some signs to look out for:
- There are cracks. More than just being unsightly, cracks are also a sign of an underlying problem. It could be you have foundation problems! It may be caused by other things too, like climate, and heavy objects, or perhaps the material’s too thin.
- You hear creaky sounds. Do you hear noise when you walk from one area to another and it’s not your shoes causing it? Well, you’re not supposed to hear any. Hardwood usually creaks as years pass because depending on your home’s foundation (as well as the moisture) it could expand or contract. If it’s a ceramic tile, it could be the glue binding your tile to the concrete slab is cracking.
- You can’t find a replacement tile that matches. There may be just two or more cracked tiles so you first checked if you can find something that’s of the same design – and there isn’t. Well, finding a perfect match for your flooring is not an easy feat as manufacturers often discontinue producing a particular style after a season or so. That is why you probably won’t find the exact one that you need. That is also the reason why it’s advisable for you to buy an extra box or even two of the tile you’re getting when you replace your flooring.
- Your carpet is just stained permanently. Do you know that the most recent carpets produced are virtually stain-resistant? So if yours has more stains than clean spots, then it’s really a good idea to replace it and welcome the new year with a fresher (not to mention easier to maintain) carpet!
- The grout looks grimy. You know what we mean. Grouts can look unsightly if you never clean it, or it stays greasy for long periods, there’s always high traffic, or they are really old. Whatever the reason is, once your grout reaches a point when it seems impossible to really clean it, you should consider getting new floors with new grouts!
These are just a few things that can help you decide to replace your floors before 2017 kicks in. There are a lot more reasons out there of course. However, one that should matter most is whether or not you really want to – because if you do, then just do it! Give us a call and we’d provide you with the best options!
