Regular cleaning and proper maintenance will give your floor a longer life. Your cleaning routine doesn’t have to be a complicated one! Here are some useful tips that will help make sure that you enjoy your flooring for a really long time:

Place Doormats at Every Door

Having doormats at every entrance to your house helps keep dirt, grit, sand, and other debris from being tracked onto your home’s floor. It would also help if you would use a latex-based driveway sealer to lessen the risk of staining your floor because of asphalt tracking.

Be Careful When Moving Heavy Objects

When moving heavy furniture or appliances, be careful and use a dolly with air tires. It’s also a great idea to lay a clean plywood or a similar hardboard to protect your floors when moving heavy objects. Never roll or slide your furniture across the room without any floor protection.

Protect Your Floors from Sun Exposure

Heat and sunlight can cause fading or discoloration to some flooring surfaces. To avoid this, close the curtains or pull your blinds down whenever you the sunlight gets too extreme or whenever your floor is too exposed to the sun’s rays.

Clean the Floor Regularly

Regular care and maintenance are important if you want to extend the life and beauty of your flooring. As time passes, constant soiling and foot traffic can affect the way your flooring looks. For hard surfaces, sweep, vacuum, or mop the floor on at least a weekly basis to avoid the accumulation of abrasive dirt and grit. This is especially important if you leave in a sandy area or near the beach. When you are using a liquid cleaner, do not forget to rinse and dry your floor thoroughly to avoid leaving a film. Make sure you are careful when your floor is still wet as it can be really slippery.

Consider Supporting Furniture with Floor Protectors

You can avoid scratches and dents by supporting furniture with non-staining floor protectors or leg bases and rollers. As a general rule, the heavier the furniture is, the wider the floor protector should be. Choose protectors that are at least an inch in diameter. They should also rest flat on the floor. You can also try non-staining protectors that are made from felt. If you are opting for metal protectors, choose rust-proof ones.

Take Care of Spots and Spills Immediately

You cannot avoid spills, but you can prevent them from making a long-term damage. The best way to do this is through a fast response. Start from the outer edge of the spill and work your way to the center so the spill won’t spread.

See? Caring for your floor is not rocket science. It may require your time and effort, but with the benefits you get from your floor and the hard beating it goes through every day, don’t you think it deserves the best care?
