Last week, we gave you some cool tips on how we can remove tough stains from hardwood and concrete, right? Now, let’s continue discussing how we can deal with tough stains but this time, we will give you tips on how to do that with vinyl, tile and carpet flooring!

REMOVE STAINS FROM VINYL

Vinyl flooring is a more popular choice in bathrooms and kitchens because of its low maintenance, (it is stain- and water-resistant), ease of installation and affordability. Although it is relatively resistant to stains, vinyl flooring can still get them, and it is still susceptible to discolouration and scuff marks. To clean the stains, use dishwashing liquid and water then dry. If that does not work, you can mix one tablespoon of ammonia with a quart of warm water. Pour a small amount of that mixture onto the stain and allow it to sit for about ten minutes. Scrub using a brush if necessary, then rinse and dry.

For scuff marks, you can use mineral spirits. Pour some onto a cloth and blot the scuff or you can also soak a cloth in lighter fluid then rub the scuff mark. Afterwards, rinse with water and dry.

Vinyl can discolour over time or if it gets exposed to direct sunlight. This, unfortunately, is permanent, so the only way to fight this problem is by preventing it from happening. You can use kitchen rugs and bathroom mats as floor protection.

REMOVE STAINS FROM TILE

The tile itself is susceptible to stains, but it is the grout you have to watch out for. If you get a spot or a stain on your tiles, you may use a nonabrasive all-purpose cleaner. If that does not work, make a mixture of diluted bleach and hydrogen peroxide – it works on the tile as it does on concrete! Just be to sure to spot-test before applying to avoid discolouration. If, after removing the stain and the tile does not look as vibrant as it used to, use lemon juice to refresh it. Afterwards, rinse thoroughly with water and dry it with a cloth.

For grout stains, make a paste out of baking soda and water, then rub the paste into the grout stain. Allow it to sit for a few hours or even overnight, then scrub it off using a nylon brush.

REMOVE STAINS FROM CARPET

Most carpet stains can be removed by using a vinegar solution:

*2 tbsp. salt

*2 tbsp. borax

*1/2 cup vinegar

Make the mixture and pour over the stain, let it dry completely and vacuum up the mixture. Most stains will be gone after doing this.

For red wine spills, you can pour a bit of white wine on top of it and the white wine will neutralize the red wine. Dump salt on it to soak up all the wine, and once it dries, clean up the salt. Sprinkle the remaining stain with club soda and blot dry. Make sure to BLOT and not RUB on the stain. Repeat the process if necessary.

For ink stains, do not fret! You can remove them with a bit of milk and cornstarch. Mix milk and cornstarch into a paste, then apply the mixture to the stain. Allow it to sit and dry for a few hours, then vacuum it up.
