Here Are the 6 Best Floor Trends of 2019

Ready to remodel but don’t know where to start? In 2019, the floor trends are more innovative, creative, eco-friendly, and affordable than ever. And that is all the more reason to be excited about your new floor.

The best part is that these gorgeous new looks will not only ensure you are living in style, but will also increase the value of your home.

Our Top 6 Favourite Floor Trends This Year

Floors may be the last thing you think of when you’re planning on updating or styling your home. However, you will truly be amazed when you see what a difference the perfect floor will bring to your daily life!

Here are six reasons why 2019 is a great year to invest in new floors.

1. Blonde Shades

Over the last few years, dark wood flooring has dominated the market. However, this year, we are expecting to see a resurgence of lighter, brighter colours like blonde and grey.

2. Rustic Farmhouse

A lovely, textured, and vintage look is still the go-to flooring trend in 2019. The warm, homey feel that textured wood gives can easily be achieved with repurposed flooring.

3. Green Flooring

Eco is in, and with such a wide range of amazing options available, now is a great time to opt for environmentally friendly flooring.

Not only does green flooring look amazing, but it will also increase the value of your home – while also reducing your ecological footprint and your heating and cooling costs. It’s definitely a win-win situation.

4. Patterned Wood

Whether you prefer traditional hardwood or a wood-look tile, textured patterns are where it is at this year.

Rather than opting for a classic parallel wood layout, think about playing around with an elegant herringbone pattern in your living room, kitchen, or bathroom. One of the great things about this look is that it is super versatile, so don’t be afraid to try it wherever you fancy.

5. Wood-Look Tile

Wood has dominated flooring trends this past decade, and this is not expected to change anytime soon.

However, tile resembling wood and wood grain is a versatile, durable, and affordable way to add some texture and panache to a bathroom or kitchen.

6. Bathroom Mosaics

When it comes to bathrooms, beautiful mosaics are all the rage in 2019.

With such a fun variety of styles to choose from – such as subway tile, chevron, and herringbone, it’s a great excuse to let your creative side shine. For a dramatic, eye-catching look, opt for something bold with a dark, and light contrast.

Green Flooring Options You Should Consider

The years when eco-friendly products were mostly boring and bland are over. Thanks to the excellent designers who are continuously working on creating beautiful pieces out of eco-friendly materials, we get to enjoy having our dream homes without feeling guilty about the environment.  This ecological movement has included flooring solutions! If you’re having your house built or renovated, here are some options you might want to consider:

Bamboo Floors

This wood-like flooring option is quickly gaining popularity. While bamboo is a grass, it amazingly shares the characteristics of hardwood. Aside from its durability which it is really known for, it is also very easy to install and maintain. It also comes in different hues that will definitely fit various motifs and decorations.

Glass Tiles

You’d be glad to know that people are actually making good use of the beer and wine bottles that are being shipped to recyclers. They are turned into gorgeous tiles. This has become a great option for bathroom and kitchen walls, and now, floors. It is non-absorbent so there is no possibility of mildew or mould to form. It also won’t stain, making it easy to maintain. It comes in an array of colours and patterns too so you’d find one that’s perfect for you. Best of all, because of its reflective property, it adds light to the room.

P.E.T. Berber Carpets

Can you imagine plastic bottles transformed into beautiful carpets? Well, you should because that is exactly what Polyester Berber carpets are. Because of this, not only do you improve the appearance of your floor but also lessen the number of plastic bottles in the landfills. It is durable, aesthetically pleasing, and spill-resistant, too! It’s a very economical flooring option that needs serious consideration.

Rubber

Rubber floors were used to be found only at playgrounds or gyms but they are now slowly making way inside our homes, too. This should not come as a surprise given that rubber is a great and durable option for kitchen and bathroom flooring. Some homeowners have also used rubber floors in their sunrooms. They offer great friction so they are easy to walk on and is also water-resistant. They are also available in various colours and patterns.

These are only some of the options you have if you are looking for green flooring. Truly, recycled materials and other eco-friendly products have evolved incredibly that you do not have to compromise your style and creativity ever again.

How to Keep your House Warm without Turning up the Heat

We Canadians are a pretty hearty bunch of people and since our winters can be quite harsh, we have to be that way. No one wants to spend more that they have to one energy costs, and it pays to take measures to keep the house warm without turning up the heat whenever possible. Here are some suggestions to keep in mind as we approach the winter season.

Stay Warm this Winter Without Turning up the Heat

  • Open your curtains and blinds during the day to take advantage of the sun’s rays to warm up your home.
  • Pull out recipes for roasts, casseroles, stews and soups. They are cold-weather favourites because they cook at low temperatures for several hours. These types of comfort foods help to keep you warm when you eat them, too.
  • Brew up a pot of coffee, tea or make yourself some hot chocolate. Don’t forget to wrap your hands around the mug to take advantage of its warmth.
  • Don’t go barefoot or wear flip-flops at home. Instead wear warm socks and slippers in the house. If your feet are cold, it’s difficult to stay warm.
  • Break out the cozy flannel sheets for your bed. They are much more comfortable than trying to warm up on cotton ones when the temperatures plummet.
  • Put a hot water bottle in your bed to warm it up before you retire at night. Wearing a pair of socks to bed will also help, since it’s difficult to sleep with cold feet.
  • Check your house for drafts using a candle or by wetting the back of your hand. If the candle’s flame flickers or your hand feels cool as you go near a window or an entry door, you know you have an issue with an air leak. Seal it up with weatherstripping or caulking to help you feel more comfortable.
  • Cover your hardwood or laminate floors with area rugs. They will help to keep your floors warm in addition to adding colour and texture to your room.
